Turkish army says three soldiers killed in an attack in country's eastern province of Şırnak

At least three soldiers were killed during a terror attack early Thursday morning in the eastern Turkish province of Şırnak, according to Turkish Armed Forces.



The Army statement said that the Görmeç Gendarmerie Battalion located in the foothills of Mount Gaber in Şırnak had been targeted by a group of terrorist with long-barrel weapons.



“Our three brave personnel have been martyred, " the statement read.



The Turkish Armed Forces launched a counter attack backed by drones, armed helicopters and special commando forces. One of the terrorist with weapon was neutralized, said the statement and added, the operation was continuing.



In recent weeks, Turkey has been targeted by terrorist groups like the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, and other leftist Marxist terror organizations.



In response to the deadly attacks that claimed dozens' lives including security officials, the Turkish government launched wide range operations targeting terror groups inside its territory, as well as ISIL in Syria and the PKK in Iraq.
