Two pro-Hamas Palestinian students were detained after Israeli forces stormed the Birzeit University near the West Bank city of Ramallah early Thursday.

"Israeli soldiers detained two students, who had staged a campus sit-in to protest their colleagues' detention by Palestinian security forces," an eyewitness said.

According to witnesses, Israeli forces seized all materials of the Islamic Front, the student wing of Hamas.

There was no comment from university officials on the Israeli raid.

Israeli forces have launched a massive crackdown in the West Bank since three Jewish settlers went missing in the occupied territory last week, arresting scores of Palestinians including several former Hamas ministers and lawmakers.

Israel accuses Hamas of abducting the trio, a claim Hamas has since dismissed as "stupid".

No Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the alleged kidnapping thus far, nor has Israel produced any evidence of Palestinian involvement.
