A F-16 fighter jet from the 152th fleet based in a central Turkey air base crashed near a central Turkish province due to an unknown reason, according to the army's statement


The jet, which took off from the Fifth Air Force Command base at 10:49 a.m. in the province of Amasya, crashed at a spot near Mecitözü-Konaklı region, which is 36 km southwest of the province’s Merzifon district, said the statement on the General Staff’s website.


The pilot survived by ejecting himself from the plane during the accident which happened at around 12:05 p.m. on a previously-planned training mission.


The pilot is not in a life-threatening condition after the crash which apparently happened due to a technical failure.


An investigation was launched into the crash.
