How will the opposition's list affect AK Party?

One of the most important gaps of the June 7th elections has been exceeded. The parliamentarian candidate lists have been handed over to YSK (Supreme Election Committee). Let me state what I'll say in the end of this article; with their candidate profiles that appeal to the Kurdish and Alawite segment, HDP and CHP made AK Party start the race with one move ahead.

There are two important points in the elections.

Will AK Party reach the sufficient number to carry out the Constitutional change that will bring forth the Presidential system?

Will HDP exceed the threshold?

Thus, all the eyes will be focused on AK Party and HDP in these elections.

When the ballot boxes are opened, we will have an answer. However, meanwhile, the leaders' performances, parliamentarian lists and election declarations will be decisive.

It's being stated that around 72 percent of the voters in Turkey had already finalized their choices and possess a party identity. When we add the population increase on top of this statement, let's say this rate is around 80 percent. Until June 7th, all the parties will be struggling for the sake of pulling this remaining 20 percent to their sides. Don't underestimate this 20 percent. Considering that there are 55 million voters, 20 percent refers to 11 million voters. In other words, this is the same number of voters as that of CHP, whose votes can be influenced. Every percentage of 20 percent will be important. The key to HDP's success in exceeding the threshold lies here, as well as the visa for AK Party to reach a majority enough to become a single rulership, or the Constitutional majority…

MHP lists made by Devlet Bahçeli:

The lists, in which MHP's parliamentarian candidates' names are written, had been written from the beginning to the end by the Chairman Devlet Bahçeli. Once again, in the list, where the nationalists in the base are excluded, the party's unexciting personnel formed the important cornerstones. The only breakthrough of MHP has been the roof candidate Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu in Istanbul and the ex-President of the Central Bank, Durmuş Yılmaz. We will see what the contribution of Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, who collapsed the roof in the presidential elections, will be towards MHP after the ballot boxes had been opened.

CHP is mainly Alawite:

The neo-nationalists faded into the background in CHP's lists. They have lost their dominance they had in the past elections. Alawite candidates in CHP's lists hit the headlines. CHP also presented an unexciting parliamentarian list. Even though Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who failed to become successful in any election since the day he become the Chairman of CHP in 2010, is bringing the 35 percent threshold to the forefront, his party is giving the struggle to exceed 25 percent. The names from CHP, who came forth in the regions in Istanbul during the primary elections and who attended TV Programs in Izmir, already has an important base formed. Halk TV being in the first place, the number of TV channels within CHP had reached a number even sufficient to form a group in the Parliament. Besides, CHP parliamentarians, excluding Şafak Pavey, had been hit by Assad. Some CHP parliamentarians, who had taken a souvenir photo with the child murderer Beşar Assad, had been excluded from the list. However, the lead-singer of the Group Yorum, Hilmi Yarayıcı, who is known for his closeness to the DHKP-C which martyred our prosecutor, had topped the charts in Hatay.

HDP made it difficult for their chances to exceed the threshold.

HDP, who entered the June 7th elections with the objective of exceeding the election threshold, has prepared their parliamentarian candidate lists from a different perspective this time. Until the lists had been presented to the confirmation of Öcalan on the weekend, the lists were crowded with a substantial amount of the Turkish left-wing. Following Öcalan's intervention, conservative Kurds secured their spots. HDP's presented list, where two Yazidi and one Assyrian candidate were included, wasn't appealing to Turkey. It was mostly made out of Kurdish and Alawite candidates. These lists had overshadowed HDP's chances of exceeding the threshold. Not having Hatip Dicle is a deficiency, and, sending Leyla Zana to Ağrı is a mistake.

As of today, there are 60 days before the elections. Every hour of these 60 days is valuable for HDP. HDP, who is on the verge of exceeding or not exceeding the threshold, failed to present a list appealing to Turkey. Rather, they stayed as a regional party within the axis of Kurds and Alawites. Thus, they made their chances to exceed the threshold difficult.

The opposition has presented the opportunity to AK Party on a golden plate

AK Party, who made their leader the President, is entering the elections without Erdoğan for the first time. However, they are entering the elections with a list, where Erdoğan's preferences are reflected. AK Party applied the three-term rule in these elections for the first time. Thus, the big names of the party were not included in the lists.

However, AK Party applied the “big brother” formula, which had been successful in the past elections. The rule of distributing ministers and deputy chairmen to the provinces had been implemented once again. This time, the representation of our non-Muslim citizens in the parliament will be more predominant. In the sense of becoming a Turkey with all our factors, this is a quite useful development. I've encountered the candidacy of my dear colleague Markar Esayan, whom I take great honor to work under Yeni Şafak together, with excitement. Also in the Southeast, AK Party has presented a strong list from the point of the Kurdish issue and Resolution Process. AK Party presented a list that takes the regional features into consideration. When compared to HDP and CHP's Alawite-Kurdish based lists, AK Party once again presented a list that appeals to Turkey. With their Kurdish-Alawite based lists, CHP and HDP presented the June 7th elections to AK Party on a golden plate.

The June 7th elections are carrying great importance for being the first election of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. AK Party's list can be regarded as the “Alteration list”. It could also be defined as the “Innovation list”. However, since this period is named the “Second half” for AK Party, these parliamentarian lists can be called “Second new”. This second half of second new is reflecting the Erdoğan-Davutoğlu alliance. We can also see this in the parliamentarian lists.
